ecuGenie identifies ECUs and helps a workshop keep simple records on its own phone. Labels and number plates are read on your device, and the workshop records you create stay on your device. We have no copy of them.
In short
ecuGenie uses the camera to read the serial number on an ECU label and, if you choose, a vehicle's number plate. Text recognition runs on your device. Camera frames are held in memory only while they are read and are then discarded; the scanner does not save photos or video.
If you take or attach a photo to a work order, that photo is stored as part of the order (see below). You can revoke camera access at any time in your phone's settings. Without it, scanning is unavailable, but Library search and existing work orders still work.
When you attach a photo or a file (for example an ECU read or tuned file) to a work order, you pick it with the system photo or file picker. ecuGenie can only see the items you pick. It saves a copy in its private storage; the original in your photo library or file location is not changed or deleted.
The following stays on your phone, in the app's private storage. We have no access to it:
If you store details about your own customers, your workshop is responsible for that information and for having a lawful reason to keep it. ecuGenie does not send it to us or to anyone else.
You can export a work order or all workshop data as a ZIP backup, and share a quote as a PDF. These contain the customer and vehicle details they cover. They are only sent where you choose to send them through your phone's share sheet. Once a copy leaves the app, ecuGenie cannot delete it.
On iPhone, the app's data may be included in the device backups you make with iCloud or a computer; those backups are controlled by you and Apple. On Android, ecuGenie opts out of Android's automatic app-data backup, so use the ZIP export to keep a copy.
In the app you can delete a single file, a work order, a customer with all of their vehicles, orders and files, or all workshop records at once. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the phone. Copies you exported or shared, and device backups, are not affected.
This version does not include analytics or send crash reports. If we add crash reporting later, we will describe it here before that version is released.
ecuGenie is a professional workshop tool. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because the app has no account system and keeps your records on your device, we hold no profile or records about you to look up. If you are in the EU/EEA you have rights of access, rectification and erasure under the GDPR for any personal data we do process, such as web server logs; contact us and we will assist. The data controller for that data is RPM Tuning (Adde Lovein), Sweden.
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and revise the date above before a version that relies on the change is released.
